Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton have been plagued with rumors about their marriage, but they are done with the headlines. The darling duo made a big announcement about their next joint project that the No Doubt singer had already hinted about last week — and it’s the perfect way to shut down any tea about their relationship for good.
On Monday, Stefani and Shelton shared a very 1970s-inspired snapshot with the title of their upcoming single, “Purple Irises.” The adorable part of the Instagram post is the matching denim outfits they chose to wear. She’s kicking back on an orange, brown, and yellow couch in a chic dark-wash jumpsuit with the zipper plunging dangerously down her chest. Shelton looks comfy in his classic country-and-western denim with brown and orange patches on the shoulders. They noted that the song will be released on Feb. 9, so get ready for them to make beautiful music together.
Eagle-eyed fans will note that in late January, the 54-year-old pop star posted a Polaroid image of her embracing the 47-year-old country singer in a kiss with a handful of purple irises next to the photo. The caption on the Polaroid read, “Never knew a love like this.” That was everyone’s clue that something big was coming while also reminding everyone that not only are things good at home, but they are also good in the music industry.
This joint project seems to be a 180-degree turn from the reports in early January when an insider told Life & Style that Stefani and Shelton’s marriage was “definitely in trouble” after spending they New Year’s Eve holiday apart. The source added, “Lately, they’ve been at odds about everything from career decisions and the parenting of her three boys to where they spend most of their time,” they said. “The tension continues to grow, and Blake and Gwen are drifting apart as a result.”
Well, those claims have been shot down by the couple, who have been married for three years. Not only are they just doing just fine, but they are also sharing their talents together. Maybe naysayers should have listened to Stefani’s gushing words about Shelton to People from last fall. “I didn’t see any of this coming with Blake,” she said enthusiastically. “This was just a big old ‘What?’ It was an amazing gift to experience love like that for the first time. He’s changed my life … when I [started dating] Blake, that’s when I felt home, like, ‘Oh, this is where I’m supposed to be, with this guy.’”
