Once the confirmation that Taylor Swift’s 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, would be available on April 19, everyone thought the same thing: Is this the Joe Alwyn breakup album fans have been itching for? With all the clues we’ve already gotten in the tracklist, fans are convinced, and wondering how Alyn will respond.
Well, insiders just revealed that Alwyn is hoping it won’t be a diss album, and apparently, no matter the outcome of the album, he won’t be responding to any of it.
“Joe has no reason to believe yet that she is going to diss him or their relationship. She writes about her past using code and points of reference,” the insider said to OK. “It may just be that she is reflecting on their time together, and he is hoping it is nothing more. If it is a diss album, that is shady.”
They added, “He helped her with songwriting on her past album, so it will really come as a shock to him if she talks about their breakup, as it is something he has not spoken of at all. Regardless of what she does, he will still not respond because he has removed himself from her narrative and is very glad, he did.”
So if anyone is expecting a public response from Alwyn, chances are it won’t happen.
The insider already added that Alwyn is aware that the album title is referencing his WhatsApp group chat (one that Swift actually didn’t like when they were dating).
“It’s undeniable that the name of her upcoming album is in reference to Joe’s WhatsApp group chat. Taylor knocked him for the name of this when they were together. She didn’t want people to think that it had anything to do with her, so when he spoke out about it, she was, of course, bothered,” the insiders said, talking about Alwyn’s 2022 interview with Variety, where he revealed he was in a group chat called the “Tortured Man Club” with Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott.
For those who don’t know, Swift and Alwyn dated from Sept 2016 to March 2023, and were incredibly private about their relationship.
