Prince Harry was in and out of the U.K. in record time to see King Charles III after his cancer diagnosis, but there wasn’t a reunion with Prince William. That news should come as no surprise to anyone who is following the royal drama, but it appears that it is the Prince of Wales who is not interested whatsoever in reconciling with his younger brother.
Right now, William has a lot on his plate after wife Kate Middleton’s “planned abdominal surgery” and her ongoing recovery. In addition to his royal duties, he’s been a hands-on dad for his three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. With all of that going on at home, the Prince of Wales seems to be pretty firm that the door is shut for good when it comes to Harry. “The prince’s main focus is for his wife, who is recovering from surgery, his three children, and now his father,” a royal insider told the Mirror. “There are no plans for Harry’s visit to act as some kind of vehicle for reconciliation.”
On the flip side, the Duke of Sussex seems very open to mending the rift with both his father and his older brother as soon as possible. His life might be rooted in the U.S., but his family is still important to him. “The Duke’s primary reason to travel to the UK is to visit his father. If the opportunity were to arise to see the Prince of Wales, then the Duke would have gladly accepted it,” the source noted.
During the promotional tour for his memoir, Spare, last year, Harry spoke about the stalemate he was facing with his father and brother. “There have been decisions that have happened on the other side that have been incredibly hurtful,” Prince Harry told ITN anchor Tom Bradby. “It hasn’t stopped. It’s continuing the whole way through.” He’s wanted “accountability” for their actions, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. However, his father’s health crisis was enough for Harry to come rushing to Charles’ side.
William, though, was reportedly “furious” with Harry for “spilling their closest secrets” to the world in his book, according to Vanity Fair‘s royal reporter Katie Nicholl. He’s been adamant that he “will not forgive Prince Harry” and William has stuck true to his word to this day. It’s a rift that might never see a happy conclusion.
