This A-List Actor Says Cher Has Been Trying To Get In Touch With Him for Years & He Has No Idea Why

We’re not usually surprised by certain celebrity pairings. Whether it’s couples, longtime BFFs, or rumored romances, few things faze us these days. But we still can’t wrap our heads around why Cher is reaching out to one particular Oscar-nominated actor — and he doesn’t really know why either.

Apparently, Paul Giamatti has been the subject of Cher’s hot pursuit for years. Why? Not even he knows. “There’s this thing around you that Cher is a huge fan of yours, and she wants to speak to you and speak with you,” Howard Stern said to Giamatti on the actor’s recent appearance on The Howard Stern Show. “She does that to me,” Giamatti replied.

The two-time Oscar nominee shared that “ever now and then” he’ll get a message that Cher “really needs” to talk to Giamatti. “Like it’s important, like it’s crucial that she talks to me,” he said. To this day Giamatti cannot understand or figure out why Cher, the Grammy-winning, Oscar-winning talent, needs to talk to him.

“Why does Cher want to talk to me? Nobody will tell me, and then I never hear anything. Then a year will go by, then it happens again.” Giamatti did say that Cher did once call him and leave a message regarding his podcast Chinwag. He called her back, and that’s the last he’s heard from her. “I’m dying to know what she wants to talk to me about,” Giamatti told Stern. “It would be great. I’d love to talk to her about anything, I don’t care. It’d be fantastic.”

Honestly, we’re also very here for the Giamatti-Cher sit-down interview, chat, coffee date, convo — literally anything to get these two together and find out why, after all these years, Cher has been trying to get in touch with Giamatti. We’re not surprised Cher is such a huge fan, though. Giamatti earned rave reviews last year for his performance in The Holdovers. He’s won a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award for his work on the film thus far, and earned nominations at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the Oscars. Now, if we could just get Cher to maybe present Giamatti with one of those statuettes if and when he wins.
