Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are signaling that they are making moves in what they hope will be a fresh start in 2024. The latest indication that big things are ahead comes from a new website, Sussex.com, that ties together all of their brands: Archewell Foundation, Archewell Productions, and the Invictus Games. However, there’s a curious association that seems to be left off their biographies on their site — and it’s definitely raising eyebrows.
It’s obvious that the couple is still using their royal titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Harry will always be a prince, but it’s hard not to miss how they skip over their royal service. It’s like that chapter of their lives never existed. Prince Harry touts himself as “a humanitarian, military veteran, mental health advocate, and environmental campaigner.” His bio proudly discusses his military service in the British Armed Forces and then rolls right into his philanthropic work with WellChild, Invictus Games, and the Archewell Foundation. Heck, even his memoir, Spare, gets a mention, but his royal chapter does not.
Meghan’s bio leans more into her work as “a feminist and champion of human rights and gender equity,” noting her accolades as “one of the most influential women in the world.” Her acting work with Suitsgets a brief mention, but the Duchess of Sussex talks more about the philanthropy she did while she was on the show. The bio also calls out her former lifestyle site, The Tig, and her guest editing spot with British Vogue, but there’s no mention that she was a senior royal family member. That part of her life is understandably erased.
Some royal critics are chomping at the bit to find as much wrong with the dynamic duo’s new website with a Daily Mail source, noting, “They are going to have real trouble with the use of Sussex. It is a royal title and if there is any hint of commercialism about this it will be shut down. It’s just staggering they cannot see how gauche it is.” This reaction is expected, especially since Harry and Meghan seem to be thriving in the U.S. which isn’t what their detractors want to see. But a Harry and Meghan insider has a more practical view of why they are using the Sussex.com website.
“Prince Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That is a fact. It is their surname and family name,” they stated. The couple has created their own source of income outside the royal family while supporting many charities — that’s the path they are clearly carving out for themselves — even though their critics continue to find something wrong with every little move they make.
