Emma Stone Left Us in Tears With Her BAFTA Best Actress Speech Dedicated to Her Mom

We love a memorable, touching, even funny acceptance speech during awards season. Honestly, it’s probably the best part of any show. But no one did their acceptance speech quite like Emma Stone. The Poor Things star won Best Actress at the BAFTA Awards yesterday, and gave the most touching, sincere, and sweet shout-out to her mom after thanking everyone involved with the making of the film.

Upon winning the statuette for her performance as Bella Baxter in the Yorgos Lanthimos film, Stone thanked the cast, crew, and her director before taking the time at the end of her speech to pay tribute to her mom. “I just want to say this in case I don’t ever get a chance to again,” she began. “I really want to just thank my mom,” Stone said.

“She’s the best person I know in the whole world,” the actress continued, getting visibly choked up. “She inspires me every single day. And she’s always made me believe this kind of crazy idea that I could do something like this, and I’m beyond grateful. Without her, none of this exists. Including my life! So thank you for that too, Mom! Thank you so much.”

We may need to grab a tissue because our eyes welled up with tears after Stone’s sweet shout-out to her mom. The actress garnered rave reviews in 2023 for her performance in Poor Things and has since won a number of awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, and Best Actress at the Critics Choice Awards.

Stone could also win the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Oscar for Best Actress in the next few weeks. But even if that happens, we love that Stone took the time during her BAFTA win to thank her mom. It was probably one of the biggest highlights of the night for us.
