Long before Meghan Markle met Prince Harry, the Duchess of Sussex ran a small but impactful lifestyle website called The Tig. And while rumors regarding the website’s potential resurgence have circled since the Sussex’s exit from royal life, new reports are officially indicating that lifestyle may indeed be her next career ambition.
According to new sources from Page Six, the mom of two has a clear goal following her Netflix contract: “to position herself as lifestyle entrepreneur à la Joanna Gaines or Gwyneth Paltrow.”
“From what I understand, I think Meghan will take on Martha Stewart, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ina Garten and play them at their own game,” one industry insider revealed.
Knowing what we know about Markle, this career pivot would be far from a surprise for fans of the royal. After all, in addition to being used to the cameras, being a natural public speaker, and having impeccable style, Markle has also been open about her love for traveling and cooking in the past.
With that said, however, Rachel Richardson, the author of the Highly Flammable trends newsletter, told Page Six there’s one major aspect about becoming a Hollywood lifestyle guru that Markle might struggle with: her privacy. “Authenticity is key in the lifestyle arena and those that succeed tend to be willing to share their whole lives,” Richardson said. “Think about it — what do we not know about Gwyneth Paltrow?”
“In Harry and Meghan and the Oprah interview, Megan let cameras capture some aspects of her private life,” Richardson continued. “But to pull off a successful lifestyle show she’ll have to be prepared to swing the door all the way open.”
And while Markle may be planning for this major rebrand sometime soon, sources indicate she’s first focusing on her current projects, like her producing role in a Netflix movie and Harry’s upcoming Invictus Games in Canada. One Sussex step at a time!
