Olivia Wilde is our confidence inspiration after her bold Paris Fashion Week appearance in a totally sheer look.
The actress, 39, is never shy in her fashion choices, or in her bold personality, and has participated in the #FreeTheNipple movement many times but her look at a recent Saint Laurent fashion show might be one of her most daring.
The Don’t Worry Darling director sat in the front row during the iconic brand’s fall 2024 presentation in a sheer bodysuit bared all. The figure-hugging brown bodysuit was tucked into a slate-gray pencil skirt which she accessorized with brown leather gloves, a matching belt and chic pointed-toe brown heels. The look was completed with sunglasses and a chunky gold necklace.
Wilde was in good company at the event where models also strutted the runway in nipple-baring looks that proved the sheer trend is here to stay. Many other stars have also opted for daring sheer ensembles in the front row of New York, London, Milan and now Paris fashion week this year and we’re applauding everyone’s confidence — it’s just skin after all!
Between sheer red carpet looks and viral breastfeeding photos, Wilde has been a trailblazer in encouraging women to normalize nipples. In 2021, she told Vogue that her participation in the #FreeTheNipple movement was all about pushing back against double standards between men and women.
“It’s culturally specific because obviously in other countries there’s less of a fear of the nipple,” the mom of two explained. “I think that we can all really benefit from making sure that we don’t allow the stigmatization of women’s bodies to infect our own perspective of ourself. If we are allowed opportunities to celebrate our body, it has an effect. It has an effect on how we treat one another and how we treat ourselves. I wish that in this country we weren’t so terrified of women’s bodies in the way that we are.”

“We have this kind of puritanical perspective on nipples. I think it’s really silly,” she continued. “I’m someone who breastfed two kids, and it’s funny [because], honestly, when you’re breastfeeding you have a different relationship to your breasts and the rest of the world. And it’s really hilarious to navigate this society’s fear of women’s bodies, even though without them we wouldn’t be here.”
Wilde’s insistence on celebrating women’s bodies makes her an obvious choice for Saint Laurent’s front row at their Feb. 27 show which was all about embracing the female form.
“Transparency—a Saint Laurent signature—is re-read, minimizing the distance between garment and skin so the two effectively meld and fabric evaporates like mist,” read the show notes, per Harper’s Bazaar. “Evoking the indelible ‘naked’ gown worn for her last public appearance by Marilyn Monroe—a frequent reference for the maison—an unsettling ambivalence cuts through the looks. Puncturing the propriety of feminine artifice, ephemeral lightness turns out to be an illusion: can purity be provocative?”
With the #FreeTheNipple movement here to stay, we’re glad to have Wilde leading the pack!
