Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s ‘Most Iconic’ Photo Speaks Volumes About Their Relationship

Royal critics love to scrutinize Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s marriage, but they’ve proven to be a very tight unit in their almost six years of marriage. Photographer Samir Hussein has snapped the dynamic duo over the years, and his “iconic” umbrella shot on one of their last royal engagements in March 2020 seems to symbolize their love.

That epic photograph will be part of a London exhibition, “Princess Diana: Accredited Access,” at the Dockside Vaults beginning May 25. It will showcase Samir, his brother Zak, and his father Anwar Hussein’s images from his time with the royal family. Samir knows how the members of the palace interact with each other and noticed right away that Meghan was unique. “It was very noticeable when Meghan came on the scene just how tactile she was, like holding the Duke’s hand and being arm-in-arm, so that was quite unusual,” he told The Telegraph.

Their PDA became well-known during their short time together as working royals, but it won them fans all over the world for their sweet interactions. That gorgeous image of Harry and Meghan looking each other in the eyes with big broad smiles on their faces made it seem like there was no one else around them. That umbrella with the rain falling around them protected them both from the storm that was ahead — but it didn’t matter because they had each other.

Samir told Us Weekly in 2020 that he spoke to the couple’s team about their reaction to his work and he learned that “they were really happy about it and talking about it.” The photographer added, “I’ve never had a reaction to a picture like that one. In terms of the reaction I’ve had from people, that’s got to be the most iconic from that point of view.” He was also “disappointed” that they were stepping back from royal life because “I’ve really, really enjoyed photographing them. I’m going to miss photographing them.”

The good news is that Samir has kept up his relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and is often on hand to document their events surrounding the Invictus Games. With the winter games coming up next year in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, Samir will have another opportunity to capture a photo of lifetime.
