If you are asking yourself what the heck is going on in the royal family, you aren’t the only one. The latest chapter in the Kate Middleton Mother’s Day photo leads us back to the ailing princess, who is supposed to be on bed rest recuperating from “planned abdominal surgery.” She issued a personal statement about what happened in the 2024 Photoshop incident (yes, there have others in prior years) on Monday.
Kate tweeted out (or someone from her communications team did to make it sound like the Princess of Wales) on X, “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.” Royal fans are supposed to believe that Kate is playing around with the software tool while on bed rest, and to no one’s surprise, fans aren’t buying it.
Royal expert Amanda Matta spoke about the royal family’s trust issues in a Monday TikTok post. She believes it is “very smart if it was a choice” for the palace to make the public believe it is Kate who made the error for a less-than-stellar reason. “That’s going to provide the royal family a layer of protection,” she explained. “People will be much more hesitant to criticize Kate than they would an inept PR team.” However, that doesn’t exclude the real-time narrative that things aren’t going well under King Charles III’s reign, particularly in the Waleses’ household.
“The public does not trust [the royal family],” Matta added. “People aren’t buying the story that Kate edited this because they have no incentive to.” And to make matters worse the normally favorable Royal Rota press is starting to turn on them and they are even calling for Prince William, who supposedly took the snapshot, and Kate to release the original photo. But does that image even exist or is it a Photoshop collage?
“When trust has been broken to that degree, getting a woman to sign a Twitter statement is not going to cut it,” Matta continued. “Especially when anyone could have typed this tweet, we have no way of knowing.” That puts the palace back at square one with the Kate rumors about her health. Is she OK? It’s hard to fathom what is happening behind the scenes, but a grainy paparazzi photo and a Photoshop fail is just adding to the long list of controversies that have piled on after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. It makes us question who is running the palace and why does it feel like staffers are purposely trying to sink the royal family — there’s no way anyone can keep a job after such terrible PR.
