Health crises often draw families together and that seems to be the case for Prince William and Queen Camilla who have reportedly grown closer as Kate Middleton and King Charles III battle cancer. While that royal alliance is helpful during the tough times, it may leave Prince Harryon the outs for even longer. He and his older brother had one remaining bond left — their dislike of their father’s second wife.
It feels like a “betrayal” to the Duke of Sussex and he reportedly “distrusts” their growing friendship, says royal expert Tom Quinn to the Mirror. “He was shocked when William realized that Camilla, far from being the monster they thought her when they were children, is actually a rather nice woman,” he claimed. The author had high praise for the queen who has a “sympathetic ear” for William during a very difficult time for them both.
“William has definitely warmed to that,” Quinn continued. “Harry, on the other hand, sees this as one more example of William letting the side down – for Harry things have never moved on really since his mother died.” Prince Harry notably referred to Queen Camilla as the “villain” in the royal family during his 60 Minutes interview with Anderson Cooper in 2023. “She was a third person in the marriage, she needed to rehabilitate her image. The need for her to rehabilitate her image…that made her dangerous because of the connections that she was forging within the British press,” Harry said.” And there was an open willingness on both sides to trade information and with a family built on hierarchy, and with her on the way to being Queen Consort, there was going to be people or bodies left in the street because of that.”
Prince Harry has been proven correct over the last year about his allegations as Camilla is known to lunch with noted Meghan Markle enemy, Piers Morgan and royal fans know that the trading of information with the Royal Rota is no longer a secret. While the Duke of Sussex seems to be making headway in reconciling his relationship with his dad, no one is budging in the sibling feud — and that is the sad reality between Harry and William right now.
“For Harry, Camilla was the wicked stepmother back then, and she still is. It’s all very sad but shows that the huge geographical divide between the brothers—Harry in America, William in London—has become a physical manifestation of their emotional separation,” Quinn added. The brotherly relationship may never be the same between them, but hopefully, they will find a cordial balance that at least allows them to exchange pleasantries at family functions in the future.
