For many years, Michael J. Fox was a rising actor taking over Hollywood. With iconic movies like the Back to the Future franchise and award-winning shows like Spin City, Fox’s career was on an impressive incline. But, following the progression of his Parkinson’s disease, the actor announced his official retirement from acting in 2020.
Now, four years later, Fox seems to be more open to the possibility of going back. But, of course, coming out of retirement would come with a series of conditions.
“I would do acting if something came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out,” Fox recently told Entertainment Tonight.
In other words, he’d be open to a project that is fully adapted and understanding to his needs, both physically and mentally.
“If someone offers me a part and I do it and I have a good time, great,” he continued. “I mean, the documentary was a big thrill.”
Most recently, Fox wrote and starred in an AppleTV+ documentary, titled Still, about his battle with Parkinson’s disease. “A short kid from a Canadian army base becomes the international pop culture darling of the 1980s, only to find the course of his life altered by a stunning diagnosis,” the official description reads. “The actor who is an incurable optimist is forced to confront an incurable disease.”
“It was fun,” Fox said of filming the documentary. “I never would have set that as a goal. It just happened.”
As a reminder, Fox retired in 2020 after admitting his struggles in remembering his lines. “I thought of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” Fox told Empire Magazine. “There’s a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character can’t remember his lines anymore. He goes back to his dressing room and he’s screaming at himself in the mirror. Just freaking insane. I had this moment where I was looking in the mirror and thought, ‘I cannot remember it anymore.'”
And while these challenges might still be present for Fox, we’re sure his fans are rejoicing at the opportunity to see him acting again. We’d be lining up theaters to see it!
