The Golden Bachelor couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist were serious about their divorce after announcing it on Friday, April. 12. Turner filed that same day, and his actions made it pretty clear that there was no reconciliation on the horizon with only three months of marriage under their belts.
While the former duo cited family and location reasons for their split, Season 21 star of The Bachelor, Nick Viall, thinks that there’s “more to the story.” He explained his suspicions to People over the weekend, noting, “I think what shocked me the most is this wasn’t just a normal breakup or an end of an engagement, this was a divorce announcement. I was caught off guard and surprised by the abruptness.”
Viall believes there is a disconnect between how the entire situation was handled. Turner and Nist were quick to marry, but they were also quick to divorce. “It doesn’t require lawyers to get out of an engagement,” he shared. “It does require lawyers to get out of a marriage, and I’m really curious what changed with Gerry and Theresa that made them so sure to sign up for a marriage license, but now only to get a divorce.”
It wouldn’t be surprising to see either Turner or Nist on Viall’s successful podcast, The Viall Files, shortly. However, it sounds like he has a preference on who he would like to hear from first. “Maybe Gerry’s not as golden as we hoped he would be,” he pondered of Nist’s side of the story. Viall doesn’t sound sort of skeptical about the entire situation, he’s really skeptical. “I don’t think it’s because they couldn’t find an apartment together. They clearly could have, they simply chose not to,” he summed up. “Give it a couple of months, and then this truth will come out.” Now, he had us wanting to hear more.
Turner and Nist kept their Good Morning America announcement hopeful and friendly as they held hands during the segment last week. “We have received so much love and support from so many people who watch the Golden Bachelor, and I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us it gave them so much hope,” Nist told GMA reporter Juju Chang. “We want none of that to change for anybody.” Only time will tell if Viall’s hunch is right about this split.
