This Golden Bachelor Contestant Says She ‘Tried to Tell’ Theresa Nist Not To Marry Gerry Turner

It turns out not everyone from the Golden Bachelor world is all that surprised that Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist are filing for divorce after only three months of marriage. Prominent players from the reality dating series are coming out to give their two cents on the separation. April Kirkwood, who was eliminated from the senior dating series in week four, made a big impression on Bachelor Nation. And apparently, she felt that she and Nist were close enough to provide a somewhat chiding comment to Nist after she opened up about the divorce on social media.

Kirkwood, a therapist, never one to shy away from speaking her truth, took to Nist’s post about her divorce to share some poignant thoughts. “I wish you the very best,” she wrote in an Instagram comment to Nist on Monday, April 15. “I truly tried to tell you, but this was your lesson to experience. Much love!” It’s a comment that hints at prior conversations, a forewarning given in the spirit of friendship.

What exactly that conversation entailed in unclear, but what is clear is that Kirkwood is thinking about women in general with her comment. She elaborated on her stance in another response. “I care for all women in the world. I wasn’t us all to learn from each other and be smart and empowered,” April said. “Lessons offer us the opportunity. We’ve all had our hearts broken … what we do with it is entirely up to us! Let’s rock this world Ladies. Therese [sic] can lead the way!”

After catching some flack for poor timing with the comment, Kirkwood backtracked to clarify her stance. “I would like to publicly apologize for my error in judgment. I sincerely meant no ill will,” she expressed. “I wish all women only peace and power to be their best selves. This was not the one for me. Much love and gratitude for understanding,” she commented, per Us Weekly.

Nist and Turner got married on live television for ABC’s The Golden Wedding on January 4, 2024. Just over three months later on April 12, the two announced their plans to divorce. “The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families,” Turner said on Good Morning America. “I think both of us feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”

“I don’t think we can tell you how many people told us that it gave them so much hope. We want none of that to change for anybody,” Nist added.

As of now, there is no word on what this means for the upcoming The Golden Bachelorette — or who will be the bachelorette.
