In case you missed yet another lip-reading scandal, fans were all over one moment at the 2024 Oscars when Emma Stone seemingly called Jimmy Kimmel a “prick.” The moment, in which Stone whispered to her husband, Dave McCary, told fans Stone might be upset over Kimmel’s joke about her movie, Poor Things.
As it turns out, the Poor Things star not only didn’t call Kimmel a “prick” but she didn’t even know the scandal happened in the first place. “No! I didn’t call him a prick,” she told The Hollywood Reporter alongside her The Curse co-star Nathan Fielder.
Fielder, for his part, was just as clueless. “What? I didn’t know anything about this,” the Nathan For You star said.
After some explanation, Stone admitted she has no recollection of what she did say, but guaranteed it wasn’t anything bad about the late-night host. “What did I say? I didn’t call him a prick. I wasn’t upset with him at all. I’ll have to look that up,” she said.
Fielder then gave his insight into the actress, saying she’s “always down for a joke.” “I’m near-unoffendable,” Stone said.
“Yes. Near-unoffendable,” Fielder continued. “And this is something that you would think someone who’s making work at her level would be like, ‘Do I want to put myself in this situation? Do I want to do this?’ But if she hears something funny, she’s like, ‘Yes,’ right away.”
“She doesn’t consult. She doesn’t analyze. She knows what makes sense to her,” he continued. “I get in my head about things, I’m overanalyzing things. And she will very confidently say, ‘Yeah, that sounds funny. Let’s do it.'” Looks like a great partnership if you ask us!
Also in the interview, Fielder revealed he texted Stone right before she won the Best Actress statuette. “I texted her. I was like, ‘I’m so proud,'” he said. “I texted her before she won, too. I was like, ‘Even if you lose, you’ll always be an Oscar winner.'”
Prior to her Poor Things win, Stone won her first Oscar for La La Land in 2017.
Fielder then gushed about his co-star’s performance. “I got to witness firsthand how much she puts into a performance and the way she creates a character and her dedication,” he said. “Watching Poor Things, I was so blown away. I was speechless after I saw it.”
Talk about the perfect co-star: praising you for your work and defending you from scandals.
