If you saw any of the Kansas City Chiefs games this past NFL season, then chances are that Taylor Swift might’ve shown up onscreen throughout the game. Swift, who attended games to support her boyfriend, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, couldn’t help but attract some attention in the stadiums. After all, she is one of the biggest pop stars in the world.
But while Swift seemed to adjust to the attention with every game, a new insider is sharing how Kelce was slightly on edge in Swift’s first game attendance. According to Kelce’s friend and teammate James Winchester, the NFL star was worried about Swift in the Chiefs versus Bears game on Sept. 24.
“My first response was, ‘That’s pretty cool,’ so I walked up to Trav in the game and we were on the sideline and I just said, ‘Hey man, that’s cool she’s here,'” Winchester remembered in a new episode of the Like a Farmer podcast, per Entertainment Tonight.
But while Winchester was being nothing but supportive, Kelce’s alarm bells started ringing. “He’s like, ‘Wait, what do you mean? Did they put her up on the Jumbotron or something?'” Kelce responded, showing his protective side.
Winchester then explained that the team’s assistant equipment manager, Jay White, had told him. “‘Jay [White] just told me right there. That’s awesome, man, good for you,'” Winchester told Kelce.
Knowing Swift was – and excuse the pun – out of the woods for now, Kelce relaxed. “He’s just kind of smiling, like, kind of blushing,” Winchester remembered. Kind of adorable, if you ask us!
Looking back now, it’s sweet to see how protective Kelce was of Swift when they first went public. After all, the two have been less and less shy of PDA and showing their support for each other ever since.
At the Mahomies Foundation Vegas in April, for example, Swift not only attended the event with Kelce to support his Chiefs teammate Patrick Mahomes, but they majorly contributed to the fundraising efforts too. At one point in the night, Kelce took the stage and announced secret auction items to the lineup: four exclusive tickets to the Eras Tour.
“I was just talking to my significant other and we might have another auction item that wasn’t on the docket,” he said. “Has anybody heard of the Eras Tour?”
As a result, the pair added an impressive $80,000 to the fundraising efforts. If we didn’t love them already, we did after that one!
