The 2024 Cannes Film Festival red carpet often rivals the Met Gala and the Oscars when it comes to high fashion.Jane Fonda did not disappoint this year when she made a stunning appearance while attending the opening night of the French event on May 14 as a brand ambassador for L’Oréal Paris. She makes 86 look so good!
Fonda wore a gorgeously sleek Elie Saab black jumpsuit that had the perfect amount of sparkle and a dramatic flow of fabric down the back. She paired it with a leopard-print jacket that she chicly draped over her shoulders and accessorized with a chunky diamond necklace from Pomellato and silver Margaux heels. Fonda’s stylist Cristina Ehrlich proudly showcased the look on her Instagram page, captioning the elegant pre-red-carpet snapshot, “She’s worth it.” And we have to agree!
As a L’Oréal Paris brand ambassador, the cosmetic company loves having her onboard because she’s “a role model for generations.” They describe her as a woman who “personifies the idea that beauty is not a question of age but of experience. Her power comes from her self-confidence and commitment to the well-being of people and the champion of causes, in particular, the effects of the climate crisis on the planet.” Fonda has proven that aging is a privilege as she continues her successful Hollywood career just four years shy of her 90th birthday.
The Oscar winner hopes that she provides some inspiration to Gen Z, so they “stop being afraid of being old.” She told Vogue in August 2022 that she wants to help “people realize that just because you’re a certain age doesn’t mean you have to give up on life, give up on having fun, give up on having boyfriends or girlfriends, making new friends, or whatever you want to do. It’s still in the realm of life possibilities for you.” Fonda also speaks positively about her body after years of struggling with an eating disorder.
“I’ll tell you one thing, I am really grateful that I spent not all my life but a good chunk of my life getting strong, right? Because I have muscles, even at 85 I’m strong, and yet, even so, getting in and out of those really high-up cars. Picking up my three-and-a-half-year-old grandson is hard,” she explained to Julia Louis-Dreyfus on Lemonada’s Wiser Than Me podcast. “But I have made peace with my body. It has gotten me a long ways it stood up for me. So, I appreciate my body. I don’t criticize it and hate on it anymore.” That Fonda confidence is shining through on every red carpet she hits.
