When Meghan Markel married Prince Harry in 2018, women across the globe were copying the stylishly messy bun she sported at her wedding reception. She set the hair trend for the next few years for brides walking down the aisle. That look was created by U.K. hairstylist George Northwood, who has maintained a working friendship with the Duchess of Sussex over the years — and now, he had one of Harry’s ex-girlfriends as a client.
Cressida Bonas shared a snapshot of her new bangs recently on her Instagram Story, revealing that Northwood was the creator of her “fringe-tactic” new ‘do, according to the Daily Mail. Her long blonde locks were styled in beachy waves while her new fringe dusted her eyebrows — a totally chic look for her. Harry and Bonas have remained friends over the years, and she even attended his wedding to Meghan. He admitted in his memoir, Spare, that their relationship didn’t work out because they weren’t meant to be together in the long run. “There was massive affection, deep and abiding loyalty – but not love everlasting,” he revealed in the book.
Northwood worked with Meghan while she was in her senior royal role, touring with her on the couple’s successful trip to Australia, New Zealand, and Tonga. Even though she left the palace for the U.S., the hairstylist’s services were called up again for her 2022 Invictus Games events in the Netherlands. He also raved about her in a March 2020 interview with British Vogue, shortly after she and Harry had left the royal family. “I wanted to share my positive experience and this big thing we’ve achieved that I’m so proud of,” he gushed while confirming that he was her wedding hairstylist for the first time. “Creating such iconic looks but not talking about them – there was actually something really nice in that.”
He believed it was his job to make her “Cali girl hair a bit more formal” to adhere to “royal protocol” while being “modern at the same time.” He added, “We wanted it to be up because a lot of the time it was appropriate for it to be up, but we didn’t want it to be too formal. We always wanted it to be refined imperfection – that’s what sums her up.” He revealed that they “immediately spoke the same language” the moment they met in February 2018, and it’s likely what got him the coveted job on her wedding day.
Meghan continues to be a style trendsetter in 2024, from her neutral fashions to her effortless Hollywood glam, she knows what looks good on her frame. So, it’s no wonder Bonas also took a style tip from the Duchess of Sussex because Northwood knows how to keep any head of hair royally elegant.
