Stars normally do a press tour to promote a project and give the standard lines over and over again of how wonderful it was to work with everyone. However, the promotion for Netflix’s Atlas with Jennifer Lopez might have brought out the shady side of one of her co-stars.
Sterling K. Brown delivered some hilarious asides that made it look like there was a feud brewing between the two of them. He sounded like he was over Lopez as they made the rounds from a week of press junket interviews to the red-carpet premiere. The internet has continued to circulate snarky clips of the This Is Us star a week after the film was released on the streaming network.
In a Unilad Original clip, Simu Liu asked Lopez, “What is your go-to comfort meal?”
She responded, “I grew up, I’m Puerto Rican, so I like rice and beans.”
Brown jumped into the conversation with the question, “Are you Puerto Rican?! Get outta here.” It sounded just as sarcastic as you would expect as she gave him a stern look and continued, “Rice and beans, and like you know, chicken.”
The camera then pans to Brown who spoke in Spanish with a decent accent, “Frijoles. Pollo. Me gusta French toast.” It’s hard not to laugh because it’s quite evident that, at that moment, he wasn’t feeling that J.Lo magic whatsoever.
The viral video has almost six million views on TikTok, and the fans have something to say about the exchange. “Sterling is messy and I’m here for it,” wrote one follower. Another account added with laughing emojis, “He knew what he was doing.” And of course, there’s always one who notes, “He understood the assignment.” Lopez is having a tough year with lackluster sales of her latest album, This Is Me… Now, and her upcoming tour, along with her Ben Affleck marital issues.
There is someone who has her back right now, and it’s co-star Simu Liu. He defended her during the Mexico City leg of their press tour when a journalist asked, “Is your divorce with Ben Affleck real? These rumors? What is the truth? Para la prensa Mexicana [for the Mexican press], what is the truth of the situation?” He jumped right in with a stern warning. “Okay, we’re not doing that” and then added a bit of softness to the other members of the media who respected her wishes not to talk about Affleck. “Thank you so much guys, we really appreciate it,” he said. “Thank you.”
Lopez is probably oversaturated in the public eye right now since the hits are coming from both her personal and professional lives. A break after her tour might be the best thing to happen to her because a little self-care is needed right now.
