Jon Bon Jovi Just Gave an Adorable Glimpse at How His & Dorothea Hurley’s Romance Started Out

While Hollywood may have the reputation of having short and rocky relationships between celebs, some celebrity couples have managed to defy the norm. Among them, of course, are Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley, who have been happily married since 1989.

Looking back at their relationship during a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Bon Jovi shared a note Hurley wrote in his high school yearbook.

“John, write a sequel to ‘Bobby’s Girl’ but name it ‘She’s Johnny’s Now,'” she wrote. “Love, Dot.”

The “Livin’ on a Prayer” singer then explained what she meant. “It was a song I’d written called ‘Bobby’s Girl,’ one of the first original songs I had written, and she was dating my buddy Bobby. And he went on to join the service as did my other two best friends, they all joined the Navy,” the singer said. “And it was my senior year of high school, and I just fell in love with the girl sitting next to me in history class.” What a sweet way of putting it!

“Stop it,” Clarkson responded as the audience swooned. “So cute.”

Most recently, Bon Jovi opened up about his life in his new Hulu docuseries Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story. And, ahead of the release, the rockstar sat down with People to share tidbits of his life, including his elopement with Hurley in Las Vegas in 1989.

“We were in Los Angeles, California, the band was on the road on the New Jersey tour,” Bon Jovi remembered. “My girlfriend, who was my fiancée at the time, we had a night off, and I said, ‘I need a higher high — I got an idea. Let’s go to Vegas now.’ And she said, ‘Now?’ I said, ‘Now.’”

With their taxi driver as their witness, the pair exchanged vows in a Vegas chapel without any friends or family.

But, to their surprise, they weren’t as supportive as they expected when they revealed the news. “It shocked a lot of people — shocked about everybody: the band, management, agents, lawyers, parents, you name it,’” Bon Jovi said. “It’s a shame because it should have been a beautiful moment, but after we did it, people were trying to take it away, until I stood up and went, ‘Wait a minute, why are we living our life for anyone else?’”

As it turns out, they couldn’t be more wrong about the budding couple. “35 years later, we’re still married,” he added. When you know, you know!
