Kate Middleton is just asking for some peace while she undergoes cancer treatment, but the internet will not let her rest. On Monday, reports started to leak out that the reason for the Princess of Wales’ disappearing act had everything to do with where she was receiving her treatment.
TikTok royal expert, Amanda Matta (@matta_of_fact) shared a Reddit thread with her followers that claimed Kate was in Houston and staying at The St. Regis. “Was visiting friends at the St. Regis this weekend and they had spoken of her being at the hotel. Has anyone else heard this? Assuming she would be here for treatment. Hoping for the best outcome for the family,” wrote the Reddit account. Matta then shared her thoughts on this possibility because of other tips she’s received about the royal’s cancer treatment over the past few months.
“Houston, Texas also happens to be home of MD Anderson which is often called the world’s top cancer treatment center,” Matta explained. “And with this post coming out, I finally feel comfortable telling you that I’ve heard things like this for the past two months now with people saying that they’ve seen Kate, they’ve seen Kate’s security at MD Anderson in Houston. Now that somebody has broken the line and posted it publicly, I feel comfortable talking about it with you.”
While there has been no photographic evidence of the Princess of Wales in the Houston area, Kate may be seeking the best course of treatment possible for her cancer — and it could also explain her absence from the public eye. Kate’s approach to her illness has been vastly different than King Charles III’s because that is what works for her and her doctors, but some fans think she should be updating the public more often. That thought is debatable since a cancer battle is so personal, but Kensington Palace downplayed the rumors to the Houston Chronicle.
The media outlet contacted Kensington Palace, which said that Kate is not “being treated at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston” — the rumor is “false.” A representative for MD Anderson Cancer Center noted that they couldn’t comment on whether the royal is or is not a patient at the facility due to strict privacy laws, but that isn’t stopping the conspiracy theories. “Deeply curious what this treatment choice communicates about the NHS’ oncology options, and how that plays into the secrecy,” wrote one account under Matta’s video. Another user added, “Since she’s no longer a working Royal and is in America, has the Royal Family discussed pulling her security?”
It’s a long and tough road for Kate, and the court of public opinion isn’t making the journey any easier.
