Kate Middleton’s Return to Royal Life Has a More Specific Timeline & It’s Going To Require Patience

Kate Middleton‘s return to royal duties has been debated for months now. Everything has been pure speculation so far, but palace insiders seem to be honing in on her reappearance timeline — and it sounds like royal fans need to find some serious patience.

The Princess of Wales is undergoing a very personal battle with cancer that, by all accounts, took her and Prince William by surprise. Everyone handles a diagnosis differently, and that’s why people need to come to grips with the idea that Kate values her privacy the most during her health crisis. That means that her hopeful-sounding letter to the Irish Guards, of which she is the appointed honorary colonel, wasn’t giving off any clues about her return. Royalists got excited when she added at the end, “I do hope that I am able to represent you all once again very soon.” Is she coming back “very soon?” Well, it doesn’t sound likely.

“I think to pick through the wording of her letter looking for clues to her intentions is a mistake. I am sure she does hope to be able to represent the Irish Guards again ‘very soon’ in an uncomplicated, normal understanding of that sentiment,” a royal insider told The Daily Beast. A second source also downplayed any speculation that Kate would make an appearance on the balcony at Trooping the Colour on Saturday. “I think this idea that Kate is suddenly going to pop up on the balcony on Saturday is far-fetched,” they noted. “It would be wonderful, of course, but more than slightly bizarre given that she bowed out of the Colonel’s review.”

Rhea Freeman, a U.K. PR expert, told GB News earlier this week that there was a possibility that the Princess of Wales was weighing a request by King Charles III to join them for the festivities. “If Kate were to appear on the balcony it would definitely dominate the news,” she said. “But from everything I’ve read and seen, I would imagine that the King would be delighted to have her there.” However, Harper’s Bazaar is echoing The Daily Beast‘s sentiments — she’s not coming back to public life until she’s healthy.

“There is no information about Kate’s ‘return’ because the focus at this moment in time is 100% on her health—to suggest she won’t return to her role is unfair and untrue,” they told Harper’s Bazaar. “Conversations of that nature are just not being had. When the time is right, she will resume her work.” It could be the fall or later, but Kate will probably not be making any royal appearances during the summer season.
