Jesse Plemons Remembers the Embarrassing Moment He Was Cut Out of a Movie Without Even Knowing

While the world now knows Jesse Plemons from his many movies and TV shows like The Power of the Dog and Love & Death, it seems his journey in Hollywood was quite a rocky one. In fact, an opportunity that seemed like his big break at the beginning of his career proved to be anything but.

Looking back in a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Plemons revealed that he was cast in the 2000 movie All the Pretty Horses playing the younger version of Matt Damon‘s character, John Grady.

“At the time it was the most exciting part that I had gotten,” Plemons said, adding that his mom even “called our local theatre and got them to do a special screening for us” and he “invited this girl I had a crush on.”

When the Billy Bob Thornton-directed movie began, however, Plemons, who was supposed to appear in the first scene of the movie, was nowhere to be seen. “We sit down and I’m not there,” he recalled. “I sat through the whole thing and I never showed up.”

And sure, that would’ve been a major blow for anyone, but with a special screening and his crush around? We can’t imagine how embarrassing that must’ve been.

“Maybe it was him?” Plemons said of Damon, who has a longstanding feud with Kimmel. “Of course it was him!” Kimmel responded. “Billy Bob would never do that.”

“I’m sorry that happened to you but it confirmed my suspicions [and] makes me feel really good about myself,” Kimmel said, adding more fuel to the fire.

But, as it turns out, while Plemons didn’t actually grace the screen as Damon’s younger version, everyone’s called them look-alikes for years.

“It has somewhat been haunting me for a little while,” Plemons admitted. “There was an occasion at the Toronto Film Festival maybe 10 years ago or so where I was stepping into an elevator [and] this woman asked me, she’s like, ‘Are you Matt Damon?’ I said, ‘No, I’m not,’” he recalled. “She looked at me as if, ‘Wow, Matt Damon is a liar.’”

As for whether he can see the similarity, Plemons doesn’t get it. “It’s hard for me to say. Not really, no,” he said. “When I was younger, my aunt watched Good Will Hunting and for some reason called and told my mom, ‘This is what Jesse’s going to look like.'”

Looks like everyone can see it but him. Maybe it’s just some leftover bitterness from being cut out of the movie?
