Just when everyone had written Kate Middleton off from a Trooping the Colour balcony appearance, the Princess of Wales surprised everyone with the revelation that she will appear at the ceremony on Saturday, June 15. An unexpected post appeared on X with an artistic new photo, taken by Matt Porteous, of the royal family member.
The lengthy message kicked off with an air of gratitude for “the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months.” Kate noted how it helped her and Prince William “through some of the harder times” while adding that she is “making good progress.” She wrote, “My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.”
That’s when the Princess of Wales revealed that her cautious return to work is also going to include Trooping the Colour. “I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet,” she wrote. However, there is a bit of hesitation in her message in reminding royal fans that her cancer battle is a marathon, not a sprint.
“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal,” she concluded. “Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.” The accompanying snapshot showed a pensive-looking princess standing underneath a willow tree and dressed in a sharply tailored outfit of jeans, a white shirt, and a khaki blazer.
Saturday’s appearance will mark the first time anyone has seen her in public since December 2023, ahead of her cancer diagnosis. The royal absence has been fraught with conspiracy theories and PR missteps, along with demands from critics for the palace to be more open in their communication. Everyone had an opinion about Kate’s possible Trooping the Colour appearance this year.
A Daily Beast source inaccurately predicted, “I think this idea that Kate is suddenly going to pop up on the balcony on Saturday is far-fetched.” However, Rhea Freeman, a U.K. PR expert told GB News that Kate was debating the request from King Charles III about making a cameo — and now we have our answer. This will likely be a major headline over the weekend and will overshadow what is supposed to be the British sovereign’s official birthday. But, after the rough year the royal family has had so far, they will take every moment of goodwill they can.
