The Republican National Convention is on its third day, and so far, Melania Trumphas not made an appearance. The media is looking for her, especially on the heels of the assassination attempt on Donald Trump‘s life on Saturday, July 13.
The GOP has claimed that the week would focus on “unity” after such a scary event, but it feels a bit awkward for the former president not to have his wife by his side during such a vulnerable time. Even after the weekend’s events, Melania doesn’t seem to have changed her political strategy one bit — she remains unconfirmed as an attendee. Even Ivanka Trump, who is steering clear of her father’s 2024 presidential campaign, has revealed that she will be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Thursday, July 18 in a personal capacity.
Melania skipped his campaign launch in November 2022 and the recent presidential debate with Joe Biden, so it wouldn’t be shocking if she bailed on this event, too. The violence aimed at Donald Trump could have spooked her and changed her plans. The former first lady often uses son Barron, 18, as a solid excuse to avoid stepping into the political arena. With his upcoming move to college, she could easily say she’s too busy to attend and no one would fault her for it.
New York Magazinepointed out that Melania missed a huge press opportunity on Monday night with his “triumphant entrance to the Republican National Convention.” However, that type of publicity doesn’t seem to interest her, neither does the role of first lady. Melania prefers the comfort of life behind Mar-a-Lago walls where the press has very little access.
The Washington Postreported that Melania is not scheduled to speak this week, but she is “still expected to attend the convention,” per a Donald Trump source. Our best guess is a brief stage appearance on Thursday night when Donald Trump accepts the Republican Party nomination, but Melania will make sure to do the least amount possible.
