Jennifer Aniston Reportedly Had a ‘Flirty’ Friendship With Ben Affleck Over the Years

Ben Affleck hasn’t made any public commentary about his marriage to Jennifer Lopez even though all signs indicate they are moving toward a divorce. Still, Hollywood insiders are already rushing to link him to another celebrity. In fact, it’s another Jennifer.

A source is revealing to In Touch Weekly that Jennifer Aniston and Affleck have always had chemistry — on and off-screen. Fans will remember that they starred in the ensemble rom-com, He’s Just Not That Into You, in 2009, and they’ve always maintained a “flirty” friendship. “They did work together on He’s Just Not That Into You 15 years ago, but they were trying to figure out a project together for years before then, and they still keep each other in mind for stuff,” the insider claimed. “There’s a very friendly and flirty open line of communication between them, plus a boatload of mutual friends — everybody from Jon Hamm to Sandra Bullock, who can totally see Ben and Jen becoming a couple down the road.”

Whoa! That jump from entertainment colleagues to lovers seems a bit much right now. Affleck and Lopez are still married, and both of them probably need some time for themselves — there’s no need to leap headfirst into another relationship. However, the source alleges that Aniston is keeping her eye on the situation. “Jen has definitely had a mini crush on Ben for years, but he’s always been in these very serious, long-term relationships during that time. But change is in the air,” they added.

The idea of Aniston and Affleck becoming a Hollywood power couple may seem like a great idea on paper, but it doesn’t align with the Friends star’s dating wishes. In 2021, she was asked by People if relationships between famous and regular people could actually work. “Of course,” she responded. “Absolutely. I mean, it’s happened. That’s what I’m sort of hoping for is not necessarily somebody in the industry itself. That’d be nice.” So, it doesn’t sound like Affleck would realistically be at the top of her wish list even if they had a romantic spark.

Aniston has also stated that since her divorce from Justin Theroux in 2018, “dating has not been one of my first priorities.” She told Harper’s Bazaar in 2019, “I feel like whatever [romance] looks like, it will present itself, and it’s not about seeking it out, you know?” So maybe everyone should put those Aniston-Affleck relationship ideas on ice.
