Miranda Lambert Reveals Why ‘Love Is Hard’ Sometimes in Her Brendan McLoughlin Marriage

On paper, Miranda Lambert and husband Brendan McLoughlin don’t look like they would be compatible. She’s a country star and he’s a former New York City police officer. They’ve been married for five years and for everyone who doubted their love, the dynamic duo is proving their naysayers wrong — that doesn’t mean every day is easy though.

The 40-year-old musician revealed to Us Weekly that their obvious differences forced them to be reflective about how they interact with each other. “I guess the thing I’ve learned the most is just that communication is everything,” she explained. “Love doesn’t always cut it. You’ve got to talk about s–t. And you have to compromise sometimes and be willing to listen to each other when you have something important to say.” Lambert believes that the investment they’ve put into their marriage “is so worth it” because “love is hard some days.”

Lambert admitted that it is McLoughlin who “calls her out” on her behavior because her country star status offers her quite a bit of privilege. “I need that. I don’t think it’s healthy that people, especially artists or celebrities, surround themself with yes people,” she added. “If you surround yourself with a group of people who are honest with you, you’ll go a lot farther, and it’s a lot healthier in the long run.” She claimed that they are “pretty chill” behind the scenes, but that wasn’t the case earlier this summer. McLoughlin found himself in a dirty dancing scandal earlier this summer that might seem to contradict that image.

A now-deleted TikTok video from June showed Lambert’s 32-year-old husband looking cozy with other women at her Nashville bar. She was reportedly not pleased that his friendly behavior was caught on camera. “Miranda gave Brendan a piece of her mind and a warning he’d better mind his behavior or else,” an In Touch Weekly source said. “There’s no way that Miranda is staying quiet about Brendan’s flirty videos that are circulating on social media.”

It sounds like Lambert and McLoughlin are back on track after an awkward start to the summer because she is singing his praises to Us Weekly. “Sometimes I say to him, ‘We kind of live on a date,’ which is pretty awesome,” she gushed. While there are bumps in the road in any marriage, Lambert might have found her ride-or-die partner for life.
