Brie Garcia is stepping up for her sister, Nikki Garcia, amid her divorce from Artem Chigvintsev.
Brie, 40, hosted her and Nikki’s joint podcast, The Nikki & Brie Show, alone on Monday, September 23 and gave an update on how her twin sister is doing after her estranged husband’s arrest on charges of domestic violence.
“Nikki isn’t here because, as you all know, she’s going through something personal in her life, and she just asks for her privacy for her and her family, so we’re going to give that,” Brie shared. “But she sees all the support and love, and we are always grateful for all of your love and support, so thank you all for that.”
Brie added that Nikki plans to return to the podcast “in a week or so.”
The sisters last aired a podcast episode one day before Chigvintsev’s August 29 arrest. The Dancing With the Stars pro was arrested in Napa Valley, where the couple live, arrested on a felony domestic violence charge for an incident involving a spouse or partner. Details about the incident have remained private and it is unclear if Nikki or the couple’s 4-year-old son Matteo was present.
Chigvintsev was released from jail that same day on a bail set at $25,000.
According to insiders, Brie was concerned for her sister prior to Chigvintsev’s arrest. ”[Brie] worried about his temper. Like a lot of people, she found his sometimes controlling behavior troubling. There were fears things might escalate,” a source claimed. “Artem is known to have a temper. He’s a perfectionist and that makes him impatient at times. Nikki made excuses for him, saying it was because he was so passionate about his craft.”
In court documents obtained by TMZ earlier this month, Nikki officially filed for divorce listing their date of separation at August 29. She requested that the court block Chigvintsev’s ability to get spousal support and asked for physical and legal custody of their son.
