Don’t cry because it’s over, be happy because there are still 18 episodes of Outlander to air in the future. Today marks the end of an era for Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, and the entire Outlander cast, as they have filmed their final scenes of the series for the last time ever. Okay, fine you can cry a little bit. Outlander began filming 11 years ago in August 2013.
Balfe released a video of her Claire wig being taken off for the very last time, with tears in her eyes. Heughan yells from his make up chair, “Yay! Claire’s gone. Bye Claire.”
Outlander just celebrated filming 100 episodes, a rare milestone in episodic television. And how did they celebrate? By Balfe and Heughan slicing the cake together with a sword, as you’d expect, for this heart-crushing, sword-slaying on-screen couple.
Heughan shared his own wrap day slideshow that contains BTS photos.
The cast has been sharing photos of their final days of filming. John Bell shared this photo of Balfe and himself atop a mountain looking like the most adorable on-screen aunt-nephew team. Lauren Lyle shared a slideshow of her wrap day on Outlander.
Izzy Meikle-Small shared a slideshow of her favorite (non-spoiler!) moments.
The second half of the penultimate season 7 is just 2 months away and the time-traveling hit will be back onscreen November 22 on Starz.
Executive producer Maril Davis chatted with us about the mid-season finale in case you need a recap of what happened in the last new Outlander episode. While you wait, there’s never a better time to start (re) watching from the very beginning.
And just like that, it’s over. September 27, 2024, 11 years after their first filming day.
