Jewel takes a break from her Greatest Hits tour to chat with SheKnows as our Girl Crush of the Month.
Odds are you probably spent some part of your dating history crying your eyes out to a Jewel song.
Now, 20 years after her wildly successful debut album Pieces of You, Jewel is bringing back those popular love songs on her Greatest Hits tour. While in Los Angeles recently, the folksy songstress took a break from her busy schedule to sit down with SheKnows and fill us in on her life.
Jewel, who married pro rodeo cowboy Ty Murray in 2008, is currently crossing the country with their son, Kase, and loving every minute of it. She told us that, although things are busier now that she’s a mom, she’s still focused on her career and excited to see where the road will take her next. From recounting her adventurous youth to teaching us to yodel, our Girl Crush of the Month gets incredibly candid.

Girl Crush Quickie
SheKnows: Who’s your Girl Crush?
Jewel: Tristan Prettyman. She’s so beautiful. She came to my show. She’s a great singer/song writer and she showed up and she was just lovely, girl crush, rad.
SK: What is the last song you listened to?
J: It was probably a children’s song. It was the Soul Train “Choo Choo Song”.
SK: What TV show are you addicted to?
J: Many! Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, I liked Sherlock the English BBC version. It’s really good.
SK: What is your favorite vacation spot?
J: Probably the Bahamas, on a boat, very peaceful.
SK: What was your best school subject… besides music?
J: Probably writing.
SK: You’ve dabbled in so many genres, what’s your favorite?
J: I kind of see them as all the same, because it’s writing songs. So it’s really hard to distinguish, but my heart is probably folk and country.
J: I can move every muscle on my face… do I have to show you?!
SK: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
J: Hard wood grows slow, which doesn’t sound like a very glamorous slogan. But to me it means you have to have patience and the right things take a long time to build. Things that grow too quickly often fall over. So if you want to build a career or a relationship, you have to do it the right way.
SK: What is your favorite song of all of your songs?
J: It’s hard. It’s like kids, you don’t want to have a favorite. I’m most sentimental about “Who Will Save Your Soul” probably, just because it’s one of the first songs I ever wrote and it’s the one that really changed my life.
