As SheKnows reported last week, a British court has awarded Heather Mills the second largest divorce settlement in UK history.
Paul McCartney’s decision to not have a prenuptial agreement has cost him dearly. The ex-Mrs. McCartney was awarded a lump sum of $33 million plus assets she already holds totaling $15.6 million. The court ordered McCartney to contribute $70,000 per year to Mills for the raising of their 4-year-old daughter Beatrice. When she left the courtroom, a gaggle of microphones surrounded Mills. “I’m so glad it’s over,” she said as the media frenzy began. “It was an incredible result in the end to secure mine and my daughter’s future and that of all the charities that I obviously plan on helping and making a difference with — because you know that has been my life for 20 years.” McCartney on the other hand, left court without addressing the media. McCartney’s fortune is valued in the billions and initially Mills had hoped to be awarded $250 million. But as public opinion of her drowned, the expectations the court would award her anything near that dwindled. This settlement has been two years in the making. McCartney’s children have never cared for Mills and must also be thrilled this episode in their father’s life is over.
