The first of the C.S. Lewis series The Chronicle of Narnia earned almost $300 million at the box office and producers are hoping for a repeat of that performance with “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.”
As the film takes place over 1,000 years in the future, the cast from the first movie is largely missing from this work. The prince in the title is played by Ben Barnes and the newcomer from the British stage has an enormous franchise on his shoulders.
The lion from the “Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe” of course is back, but this fantasy is largely darker and more gritty than the first. Just a warning to parents think about bringing young children before heading into this film – the subject matter is a massive rebellion – prepare for images of war.
It was 1941 when the adventure last ended and the action picks up 1,300 years in the future on Narnia as the Pevensie children return to the home of their supposed destiny. King Miraz is holding the region in his lecherous hold and only the Prince (Barnes) can lead his people to freedom.
Walt Disney is disturbing “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian,” but this is unlike any series Disney has produced prior. Its Christian theme leanings didn’t seem to hurt the first film’s foray into the theaters and watch for the sequel to perform even better.
