And the Emmy goes to…not yet! Although the nominations were announced today!
One thing was quite obvious this morning in Hollywood:
Who’s da bomb? Reality shows, that’s who.
When the 60th annual Emmy Awards air on September 21st from Los Angeles, there will be a new category in lights.
Here’s a little hint with the nominees: Ryan Seacrest, Heidi Klum, Tom Bergeron, Jeff Probst, and Howie Mandel…give up?
That’s right, there’s a new category for top host for a reality-competition show (seems like Chris Harrison got gypped, we love him on the Bachelor/Bachelorette!)
As for the scoop, “Mad Men” held its power with 16 nods, the highest in any drama series. Jon Hamm scooped a nomination for the best actor and was nominated along with Gabriel Byrne (“In Treatment”), Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad”), Michael C. Hall (“Dexter”), Hugh Laurie (“House”), and James Spader (“Boston Legal”).
The actresses held their own as well: Glenn Close (“Damages”), Sally Field (“Brothers and Sisters”), Mariska Hargitay (“Law & Order: SVU”), Holly Hunter (“Saving Grace”), and Kyra Sedgwick (“The Closer”).
One of our faves, “30 Rock,” is almost a slam dunk in the contest having been nominated 17 times including best series, lead actor and actress, Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, respectively. Along with Alec fellow comedy series lead actors included Steve Carrell (“The Office”), Lee Pace (“Pushing Daisies”), Tony Shaloub (“Monk”), and Charlie Sheen (“Two and a Half Men”).
Tina Fey’s colleagues in the best comedy series actress are Christina Applegate (“Samantha Who”), America Ferrera (“Ugly Betty”), Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“New Adventures of Old Christine”), and Mary-Louise Parker (“Weeds”).
