Tommy Lee Jones has filed a $10 million lawsuit against Paramount Pictures, claiming he was never paid promised bonuses on the acclaimed film No Country for Old Men.
The Oscar-winning actor, who starred in the 2007 hit crime thriller, claims he was promised “significant box-office bonuses” and other compensation dependent upon the success of the film, which has raked in over $160 million since its release.
No Country for Old Men is based on the critically acclaimed novel by Cormac McCarthy, won four Academy Awards including Best Picture.
Jones claims he was not paid expected bonuses and that incorrect deductions were taken from his cut. He also says that after he was paid a reduced upfront fee for joining the project, his contract had known errors in it that were not corrected before filming began. He is asking for an auditor to review all of the film’s financial records in order to determine how much he should be paid.
Both Jones and reps at Paramount declined to comment on the suit. “The paperwork speaks for itself,” said Jones’ publicist Jennifer Allen.
