Katie Holmes is having her big Broadway moment. Mrs. Tom Cruise held her final dress rehearsal last evening for Arthur Miller’s All My Sons. Cruise was on hand to lend his support.
Holmes was ever the fashion maven leaving the theater with her almost Jackie-O appearance.
Previews begin tonight for the intensely emotional drama. Although not technically opening night, it is where the media and audiences can witness the show first. Holmes has been enduring 12 hours rehearsals for the last several weeks to prepare for her theatrical debut.
Recent celebrities have had mixed fare landing on Broadway. Julia Roberts was panned while Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe has been garnering raves for Equinox.
All My Sons is a demanding play. The story of a defense contractor (played here by John Lithgow) who knowingly sold defective parts to the military that results in multiple American deaths during World War II is the least known of Miller’s plays. The Crucible and Death of a Salesman take the title of Miller’s most known.
Witnessing Holmes as a supporting character will also be interesting to an actress who has been pretty used to the spotlight since marrying Cruise and giving birth to (can you believe it!) two-year-old Suri.
One thing is for certain, Holmes is a long way from Dawson’s Creek. Nothing could prove that more than the painstakingly intense emotional rush of All My Sons.
