Dancing with the Stars returns bigger and better

It was TV’s biggest night last night, the Emmy Awards were handed out and except for 30 Rock, and cable TV programs were the major winners with Mad Men taking top drama prize.

The losers were the show’s writers who thought it would be fun to have 5 reality show hosts…host! I think we’re all in agreement that it was beyond awkward with Howie Mandel pushing it all the way to painful to watch.

I did enjoy Josh Groban’s medley to TV hits where he managed to capture the sound of each tune and it was wonderful to see Tommy Smothers rewarded for all his hard work after all these years.

Bad: David Boreanez and Lauren Conrad. What was that all about? Good: Don Rickles. At 80 plus, he stole the show.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programs.

Tonight on TV – Monday, September 22

The DVR will be working overtime as both ABC and NBC begin their premiere weeks.

ABC should steal the night when Dancing with the Stars returns and that’s followed by the season premiere of Boston Legal.

CBS also goes big goes with the season premiere of their comedy lineup; The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Worst Week , and the return of CSI: Miami.

NBC puts up a fight with a Heroes special and then the season premiere at 9:00 p.m.

FOX has new episodes of The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Prison Break.

The CW has new Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill.

Over on cable

Food Network has a few new episodes tonight including
How Did That Get on My Plate?
MTV has The Hills and Exiled.

Fashion Police is new on Style and HGTV has Curb Appeal.

VH1 is all new I Love Money, Work for Diddy, New York Goes to Hollywood, and Luke’s Parental Advice.

News and notable

MTV has a new series called Sex…with Mom and Dad. Hey, don’t go there. It’s Dr. Drew helping teens learn to talk to their parents about the ‘S’ word.

Kathy Griffin is on for a fifth season of My Life on the D-List. (Wait. She was at the Emmy’s and she’s still on the D-List?)

SCI FI is opening Warehouse 13, about two secret service agents given the job of guarding a warehouse full of alien and other odd artifacts.

Alexis Stewart will host the series devoted to making fun of her mother Martha’s TV show. How interesting is that?

One Tree Hill’s Danneel Harris is taking over the role of Sarah Chalke’s sister in How I Met Your Mother replacing the previously announced Sara Paxton who looks like Alexis Bledel. Got it?
