Zac Efron prepares to get Footloose!

Zac Efron is moving on from High School Musical. But he isn’t moving on from musicals too far with his taking Kevin Bacon’s shoes in Footloose.

Zac Efron budding movie resume is growing. Up next?

The rumors are true: Efron’s signed on to a remake of the Kevin Bacon ’80s classic, Footloose.

Zac Efron may be leaving the world of High School Musical behind, but the upcoming Footloose movie project will still showcase the actor’s singing and dancing.

Following a $42 million opening weekend box office haul for High School Musical 3: Senior Year, Paramount Pictures is stepping up production on a remake of Footloose, hoping to get the film ready for production in the spring of 2009.

The remake of the classic Kevin Bacon flick is the latest movie on Efron’s expanding resume. He’ll be appearing alongside Matthew Perry and Leslie Mann in April’s 17 Again.

High School Musical 3 director Kenny Ortega will direct the project, while Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist writer Peter Sollett will pen the script.
