Are Malia and Sasha Obama Beanie Babies? Unfortunately for First Lady Michelle Obama, that is indeed true.
Sure, Ty, Inc., the makers of Beanie Babies, may have a potential doll hit on their hand but it’s a big miss when it comes down to Mom-in-Charge, Michelle Obama. The toy makers recently introduced two new dolls: Marvelous Malia and Sweet Sasha.
Both resemble our nation’s First Children in the White House. Well, Mrs. Michelle Obama was not too pleased.
Through the First Lady’s press secretary, it was clear she felt the company is trying to profit on the likeness of Malia and Sasha. Michelle was offended by the thought of two private citizens, children, being used in an attempt to make money.
In a statement, Mrs. Obama’s press secretary, Katie McCormick Lelweld stated, “We feel it is inappropriate to use young, private citizens for marketing purposes.”
We’re not saying it’s right or wrong, we’re just saying the fact that Ty created Malia and Sasha dolls isn’t entirely out of the scope for this toymaker.
Ty has done it before: the TyGirlz Collection also includes Jammin’ Jenna, Happy Hillary, Precious Paris and Bubbly Britney.
Now, we’re not even sure if Malia and Sasha would be playing with dolls of their own likeness (wouldn’t that be kind of weird?) but we do know they rock out to the Jonas Brothers!
