Chris Brown quits Kids Choice Awards

Chris Brown ducks to pressure and has withdrawn his name from the Kids Choice Awards. The Nickelodeon awards show honors the best and brightest – well maybe the most popular – stars who inspire our children.

Having Brown, parents groups argue, participate in the festivities sends the wrong message to children about domestic violence. Considering Brown’s charges of domestic abuse against Rihanna, Brown did not want to bring a dark shadow over the Kids Choice Awards and decided to withdraw from his Favorite Song and Favorite Male Singer category — a category that Brown won last year.

Rihanna, meanwhile, was silent on the Kids Choice Awards hubbub. Brown and Rihanna have become topic ‘A’ across America since their February 8 altercation. In light of the backlash against Brown — who has yet to be found guilty of anything — it was frankly surprising that Nickelodeon did not ask Brown to withdraw.Instead, the children’s network said it was standing by their nominations. Enter a million emails from angry parents and Nickelodeon still maintained Brown was invited to their March 28 festivities.Brown stands charged with assault likely to cause bodily injury and making criminal threats. His arraignment is currently set for April 6.There was also a request for a closed door hearing today by Brown’s attorneys. The details are slow to emerge, but this is what we have thus far: Brown’s lawyers requested a March 23 hearing to discuss the pending case against their high-profile client. What could be the topic? For one, legal insiders are wondering whether Rihanna, now back together with her boyfriend and perhaps even married, will testify.Sources close to the case say the Brown’s lawyers want to discuss the calling of witnesses with the judge. Could Rihanna’s name be mentioned? Bet on it.
