Slash does American Idol

American Idol receives the most unusual of mentors in former Guns n’ Roses guitarist Slash. The show is celebrating Rock Week as it winds down to the final four with Adam, Allison, Kris and Danny singing the tunes.

It’s season finale time! Many shows have only two final episodes. Get ready for the big ending! I hate this time of year. I love my TV shows and I do not want to see them end, even if it’s only a temporary hiatus. This September-to-May system was designed back in the early days of TV when there were only a few channels and no one watched in the summer because they spent their evenings outdoors. Well, those days are gone, clearly, since networks now program brand-new summer shows to fill the gap. Here’s an idea: Make more episodes of my favorite shows instead of replacing them with something else.

Let’s take Castle for example. I’ve really got the hang of this show now. The characters have settled in nicely, I know not to expect realism, I’m enjoying the ride, and next week is the finale. What was that, 10 episodes? And when Supernatural goes into reruns in two weeks, I’m officially going into a period of mourning.

One bright spot’s on that gloomy, summer-hiatus horizon — the return of So You Think You Can Dance. That one show alone might be enough to sustain me.

Tonight has only one finale among a bunch of new episodes. Check this out:
