Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: Enough said. Their names frequently appear in headlines not just for their stardom, but often for their generosity. Brad and Angie’s giving has just gotten bigger.
The Jolie-Pitt Foundation has officially donated $1 million to aid refugees in Pakistan. Millions of people in that area of the world have been affected by continued violence in Afghanistan.
As a U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador, Jolie has visited Pakistan several times. In 2006, security concerns forced a production move from Pakistan to India.
Right now, Jolie is in Washington, D.C., for World Refugee Day to discuss the cause with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, even as Clinton works from home due to a broken elbow.
While naysayers may say Jolie has leveraged the media to spin her image in the wake of the Pitt-Aniston breakup or claim that her donations make news when other “giving” celebs don’t want the press, there’s no denying that Brad and Angie put their money where their mouths are.
Meanwhile, beau Brad Pitt is also in a philanthropic mood, donating $1 million locally to the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center he created in his hometown. The Springfield, Missouri facility takes its name from his mom, an activist.
