30 Rock scored 22 nominations as the Emmy Award nominations were announced in Hollywood July 16. Also near the top of the Emmy nomination board is AMC’s Mad Men, a perennial Emmy favorite.
One of the biggest news to arise out of the nominations is how Saturday Night Live’s coverage of the 2008 presidential
election seems to have done them well. The late-night sketch show earned a record 22 nominations. Congratulations to a show that has been at it for so long, they’re finally getting it right
once again.
Also to note is the addition of Family Guy in the Outstanding Comedy series category. Family Guy has largely been ignored by the Emmy Awards and is often considered one of the top shows of
the year. It’s a success story for creator Seth MacFarlane whose show had been cancelled, then brought back after years of fan outcry.
The only surprise in the lead actor comedy series category was the addition of The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons.
Simon Baker scored a nomination for his freshman hit, The Mentalist. Baker’s lead acting cohorts are Gabriel Byrne, Bryan Cranston, Michael C. Hall, Jon Hamm and Hugh Laurie.
Another treat will be watching life in the Kevin Bacon and Kyra
Sedgwick household over these next few weeks. Both husband and wife received Emmy nominations July 16. Sedgwick earned a nomination for her The Closer role and Bacon earned a best
actor nomination for his HBO original film Taking Chance.
Lastly, we here at SheKnows Entertainment always like to provide you the inside scoop to the latest and greatest in Hollywood and in our review of Grey Gardens, we called on the Emmy Awards to simply give Drew Barrymore one for her portrayal of Little Edie. Glad to hear they listened,
