August movies heat up with the brightest stars from Meryl Streep and Amy Adams to Brad Pitt joining Quentin Tarantino. But, our August can’t wait pick is the film version of the instant literary classic, The Time Traveler’s Wife.

SheKnows takes our final look at summer films for 2009 with the August Movie Preview.

Hollywood has saved the best for last when it comes to films worth seeing to cool the summer heat.

August 7

Julie and Julia

When Julie and Julia’s trailer first hit the screen, when the star announcement read Meryl Streep as Julia Child, they had us – who better? Amy Adams re-teams with Streep after their Oscar nominated tuirns in Doubt. Adams plays Julie Powell, another real life woman who turns to
cooking when her life hits a crossroads.

Powell’s book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Julie and Julia and a recent autobiography of Child serves as the film’s framework.

Julie Powell was a dead-end job and inspired by the French chef, decided to write a blog about tackling Child’s recipes all in one year.

Julie and Julia tells two parallel stories, one in ’50s Paris with Julia Child and the other in 2002 in Queens, New York. Stanley Tucci also stars as Child’s confident, a
re-team from Devil Wears Prada that we know already possesses electric chemistry.

Paper Heart

A cure for the love-sick summer movie goer, Paper Heart stars Michael Cera and Charlyne Yi as star-crossed
lovers in Nicholas Jasenovec’s tender film.

Joining
a long line of films that mix real life and cinema, Yi stars as herself, a comic searching for love. Her “character” shoots a documentary about whether true love exists. With Yi’s
real-life love Cera as her co-star, look for Paper Heart to melt hearts this August.

A Perfect Getaway

Milla Jovovich and Steve Zahn think they’ve found paradise in A Perfect Getaway. This wouldn’t be the thriller it’s advertised to be if they were right!

GI Joe

In the latest toy-to-movie franchise, the man-soldier GI Joe gets his big-screen treatment. Starring the charismatic Channing Tatum, Dennis Quaid and Sienna Miller as a baddie, GI Joe is all flash and bang and little plot. But, if after a summer full of explosions, you
yearn for more, GI Joe has arrived to your late-summer rescue.

Cold Souls

Filmmaker Sophie Barthes always wanted actor extraoridnarie Paul Giamatti for her film Cold Souls. Once she got the script in the actor’s hand, his yes came fast
and furious. It’s a good thing the actor agreed because his true persona is central to the entire movie.

In a Being John Malkovich type of setting, Giamatti plays himself (in a way) – a famous actor who decides to go for a soul extraction. A film that is about an actor without a soul?
Surely, comedy will ensue.

August 14

Time Traveler’s Wife

SheKnows traveled to New York City to talk to the cast and crew of Time Traveler’s Wife and can promise you that if you are a fan of the book, you will not be dissapoitned in the
film. We can’t say much else about the film until the release date of August 14, but one thing is certain: Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams have never been better.

For those who don’t know, The Time Traveler’s Wife is the best-seller from first-time author Audrey Niffenegger. Debuting in 2003, it became an instant hit and movie ideas
began to circle.

Casting was central to the film working and with Robert Schwentke directing from a script by Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost), whomever was chosen would be in good hands. Melding the romantic with
the supernatural, Rubin scored an Oscar for Ghost and handles The Time Traveler’s Wife with equal passion.

The story of a time traveler and the woman who loves him captures hearts by the millions and promises to do the same exponentially when it arrives on screen.

District 9

Peter Jackson’s may only be producer, but this film has his artistic stamp all over it. In 2005 director Neill Blomkamp crafted a short film called Alive in Joburg. District 9 is
Blomkamps big-screen incarnation with Peter Jackson producing.

The film is a docu-style film, shot in many ways like Cloverfield, following the landing of aliens in South Africa in the 1980s. When the extraterrestrials begin to cause trouble, they are
confined in District 9 and our thriller truly takes off.

It Might Get Loud

What if Jimmy Page, Jack White and The Edge got together to jam. It Might Get Loud, huh? Documentaries rarely rock as much as this one does in its celebration of all
things electric guitar.

Up next…the rest of August 14 including Ashton Kutcher killing it as a gigolo and Brad Pitt playing a Jewish soldier going Medieval on Nazis.
