Country duo Brooks and Dunn are calling it quits after nearly 20 years together.
The award-winning pair announced the split on their website.
“After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it’s time call it a day. This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed…
We owe it all to you, the fans. If you hear rumors, don’t believe them, it’s just time.
We will release our Number One’s and Then Some on September 8 and bid you farewell one last time in 2010, with The Last Rodeo Tour…(dates to be announced).”
The duo has sold more than 60 million albums according to their record company, Arista Nashville.
“They’ve been to the mountaintop and they’ve accomplished everything that two human beings joined together musically can do in a career,” said Brian Philips, president of Country Music Television.
“They’ve had every kind of hit. Literally, they’ve explored every musical texture and tempo and style and flavor.”
This writer’s Brooks & Dunn memory:
Picture it – Daytona 500, 2006. It was Toyota’s first year in the race and the auto manufacturer had a huge promotional setup outside
the track, including a stage on which Brooks & Dunn were to give a little performance. Afterwards, the pair was to do a little work-around of the crew who had been working all week in the cold
— and it was unseasonably freezing that year — and take a ride in one of the trucks being featured.
Unfortunately, they were too hammered. Barely able to climb onstage, they mumbled a few incoherent words until one of their handlers whisked them away from public view. Also? Their pants were too
tight.
But we’re sure they don’t care what we think of their pants, as they’re counting their millions.
