Flipping Out: too negative?

Last year I made a vow to myself that I would no longer watch negative TV shows such as Flipping Out. You know, those ones that nothing but an hour of one human being berating another such as Hell’s Kitchen.

Last night I found myself
watching both Flipping Out and Hell’s Kitchen! I can only think that my desire arose out of some kind of deficiency in my body, like the way I crave liver when I’m low on iron.
Why else would I spend two hours watching obsessive-compulsive people blaming others for their inability to thrive in impossible situations?

On the much lighter side, it was the third quarterfinal round on America’s Got Talent. We had a chainsaw juggler, a pixie dance troupe, several singers and a magician who got a second
chance as a wildcard pick. Want all the details?

Read my full America’s Got Talent recap.

Now I’m on my way to CBS Studios in Hollywood where I’ll be checking out all of the new fall shows from CBS and The CW. Wish me luck on the freeway and I’ll see you all back here tomorrow with all
the scoop.

Tonight’s top TV picks:

Octomom: The Incredible Unseen Footage (8:00 Fox)

It’s been a while since Fox ran one of its “sensationalism at its best” specials (remember the alien autopsy?). Tonight, it’s home movies of the Octomom, aka Nadya Suleman. When they began filming
this special, Suleman was the poster mom for bad parenting. Since then, Jon and Kate may have usurped that title but the question is, will they keep it after America sees what its like inside the
mind of this unemployed, single mother of eight?

Top Chef: Las Vegas (9:00 Bravo)

It’s time for another season of Top Chef and this time it’s going to bigger, crazier and more glamorous! This is, after all, Las Vegas and that means celebrity guests, too. This season
you’ll see Natalie Portman, Penn & Teller, Wolfgang Puck, Tyler Florence and more. Sharpen your knives, it’s time to get cooking!

Ghost Hunters (9:00 Syfy)

The TAPS team returns for a new season of thrills and chills. In this episode, the team faces off against a malevolent spirit that likes to scratch and grab. Then it’s off to a Civil War site that
has seen more than its share of tragic events.

News and notable

In American Idol news, Kelly Clarkson and Joe Jonas have now signed on to be American Idol judges. This could get
interesting.

Nicole Kidman will appear on tomorrow night’s Project Runway Challenge.

TNT has given Leverage two more episodes in their summer season.

Buffy’s James Marsters has signed on to the Battlestar Galactica spinoff Caprica.

Chatty relatives spilled the beans about their loved one’s dancing partners on Dancing with the Stars. Donny Osmond’s son sent
congrats on Twitter to his dad and partner Kym Johnson. George Hamilton took the direct route and mentioned his son’s partner would be Edyta Sliwinska while doing an interview with ET.
