Catherine Zeta-Jones is heading off to Broadway. Zeta-Jones will hit the stage with fellow UK star Angela Lansbury in A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim.
Every now and then here in Manhattan we get excited for dazzling news on Broadway. Check that – super excited. Whether it’s
all about Hugh Jackman’s return to Broadway or Sienna Miller’s debut this fall, you know what…is downright thrilling.
After all, what could be better than live theater on the Great White Way?
Although we’ll anticipate a departure from Catherine’s Academy Award-winning show stopping singing and dancing moves a la Chicago on the silver screen. This time, the Welsh
actress will be in a musical alongside Lansbury by playing her daughter.
Zeta-Jones will act as the role of Desiree. You may already be familiar with tunes of the show which include Send in the Clowns and Every Day a Little Death. The Broadway musical
is slated to open in the middle of December.
It certainly won’t be Zeta-Jones first tryst at live theater. The Welsh actress starred in the West End production of 42nd Street. After that she landed a role in a Yorkshire TV
program (yes, that would be across the pond) called The Darling Buds of May.
Next thing you know, she earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Traffic. You may also recall seeing her in America’s Sweethearts, The Mask of Zorro
and Ocean’s Twelve. Zeta-Jones is perhaps best known for her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress as Velma Kelly in Chicago.
