The musician DJ AM, aka Adam Goldstein, was found dead Friday evening in New York City.
Disc Jockey/musician Adam Michael Goldstein, aka DJ AM, was found dead in the evening on Friday, August 28, in his Lafayette Street apartment in New York City. He was 36 years old. Early reports suggest that Goldstein’s death was drug-related.
Sources, including TMZ.com, report that friends alerted the authorities after he had not been seen or heard for 2 or 3 days and was not answering the door at his apartment. Paramedics reportedly had to break down the door to gain access to his home at around 5:20 pm EST.
The last post from DJ AM’s twitter account on August 25 at 2:57 pm was an eerily prescient lyric by hip-hop musician and fellow DJ Grandmaster Flash. Goldstein wrote:
“New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.”
Not even one year ago, DJ AM and bandmate Travis Barker were in a fiery plane crash — and, while badly burned, were the only two survivors out of the six people onboard.
Before the plane crash, DJ AM had been quoted in Glamour magazine as saying, “It’s been 9-1/2 years since I’ve had a drink or taken drugs… but I’m still a drug addict.”
Shortly after the news broke, Travis Barker’s ex-wife Shanna Moakler posted on Twitter, “My deepest condolences for DJ AM, you were a great artist and will be severely missed. My thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends.”
