Jon and Kate Gosselin:
The reality show Jon and Kate Plus Eight invited American into one of the
countries most unique families, but this pair bares mention for the inescapable horror show that ensued as their marriage deteriorated.
Splashed across every tabloid, morning talk show and celeb news outlet, the ongoing spectacle included Jon running around with a host of ladies and settling with already ex-girlfriend Hailey Glassman.
With the divorce just about finalized, Jon got the reality show canceled, but the jokes on him: He can’t break his contract and do any more press or TV projects, while Kate has a new talk show
coming in 2010.
Michael Jackson’s Death:
The loss of Michael Jackson quickly went from heartbreaking to scandalous when the coroner ruled his
death a homicide, citing propofol and lorazepam as the primary drugs responsible, while noting there was also midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine and ephedrine in his system.
Jackson’s massive televised memorial stopped the nation, and we’re still muttering about the kids, who are getting more press then he ever would have liked. Sadly, with his death came that comeback
he was hoping for in life. Jackson also saw his record sales went through the roof, while the documentary-concert movie This is It! was an international blockbuster.
Rihanna and Chris Brown:
These hip hop kids were a golden pair, but things took a nasty turn when Chris Brown beat Rihanna, a crime that was
heard around the world.
With everyone weighing in and keeping tabs on the drama, the pre-Grammy tussle left Rihanna both battered and exposed, but she’s since carried on without Brown, while Brown is struggling to get
past his new rep as an abusive bad guy.
Kanye West & Taylor Swift:
With an ego to match his album sales, Kanye West has long had a rep for throwing tantrums. This year, he tops the list for
stealing the spotlight from It Girl Taylor Swift at the MTV’s Video Music Awards (VMAs).
True, some agree with Kanye’s grievance that Beyonce deserved to win the Best Music Video award, but even President Obama called Kanye a “jackass” for grabbing the mike from young Taylor as she was
accepting the honor. Ironically, this pair was dubbed Top Male and Female Artist of the Year by Billboard magazine.
Up next…number one! Guess who? There may be a Cheetah in the house.
