American Idol judges save Big Mike

American Idol judges used the save last night, shocking the studio audience and the singer they saved, Mike Lynche.

American Idol is one of our country’s hottest reality shows — Dancing With the Starsis currently TV’s most popular — and last night’s Idol simply sizzled.

In a move that can be made only once a season, judges Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi unanimously voted to pull Lynche from elimination in the same episode that saw searing performances from Rihanna, David Archuleta and Jason DeRulo.

Despite the big save, we now know that two contestants next week will have no choice but to say adios to the singing reality competition. As Adam Lambert returns as a mentor on the April 12 show, the performances must be flawless.

The question, of course, is if the move will save Lynche from ultimate elimination and catapult his performances and motivation to stay on course for the coveted prize. Will it also make him a viewer fave?

Since Katie Stevens has improved, so has Siobhan Magnus with her powerful vocals. Crystal Bowersox probably will stay in the running next week as well, and Aaron Kelly seems to be a teen fan favorite.

As the show gets down to the wire, one thing’s for sure: Every week will continue to delight and captivate us. Even as David Archuleta performed as an alum, he indicated that he still gets nervous around the judges, even though they’re not judging him anymore. We’ll be tuning in next week to see which two aspiring singers are sent packing.
