Maria Shriver is set to host the Women’s Conference 2010 in October and California’s First Lady has pulled in some big names for the three-day event, including Oprah, Jessica Simpson and Robert Redford.
“Along with the Women’s Conference team, I am thrilled to announce our most extraordinary lineup of speakers and events yet for the 2010 conference,” Maria Shriver posted on the conference site’s blog.
“For our theme this year, we have chosen “It’s Time.” At this challenging moment in history, we want to inspire women to see this as an opportunity to come together and transform ourselves, our communities and our world as architects of change.”
The annual conference hosted by Maria Shiver and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will run from October 24 to 26 at the Long Beach Convention Center, kicking off with Shriver’s March on Alzheimer’s and a candlelight vigil.
In addition to a star-studded performance of Love, Loss, and What I Wore, an intimate collection of stories by Nora and Delia Ephron, the conference will feature over 140 leaders, journalists, experts, authors and artists.
Those slated to take the podium are Jessica Simpson, Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Lisa Ling, Jillian Michaels and Holly Robinson Peete.
There are a few good men in the line up, as well, including Robert Redford and Deepak Chopra.
Oprah Winfrey and the Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor are scheduled to speak as well, but they’re also set to receive an award. Along with Oral Lee Brown, Carolyn Blashek and Sister Terry Dodge, they are this year’s recipients of the Minerva Award, which honors remarkable women who have changed California and the nation with their courage, strength and wisdom.
Mary J Blige is set to share her remarks at the October 26 ceremony.
Tickets for most of the conference events go on sale next Wednesday, June 23 at 9 am Pacific Time.
